James was a mine captain in 1867, trustee of the Benevolent Society of New Almaden and second in command to James Harry. Reported to be a giant of a man. Reported by Bulmore in November 1885, paid $140.00 as a shaftman, from "The Cornish Miner in America" pages 87, 92, 94 and 102 by Cecil Todd Book ID 045., Jimmie Schneider collection.
