A photo of six men and a large ore cart at the entrance to the Main Tunnel. At the extreme right is Sherman Day, surveyor and then mine superintendent during the 1860's. During the early development days of the New Almaden mines, most of the ore was brought from the depths of Mine Hill through this tunnel which opened on Deep Gulch.
