Louis (Louie) Artnous was born on "Mine Hill". Louis (Louie) Artnous was born on "Mine Hill-Mexican Camp", New Almaden in 1865 of French and Mexican parents. Passed away at the age of 74 years in 1940. Married Adelaide (Ida) Carrillo who was born at the New Idria Mercury Mine, San Benito County in 1867, of Mexican parents. Passed away at the age of 80 years in 1947. Jacket of wedding dress, shoes and part of dress decorations are shown here. Louie worked at the mine until an accident crushed his left leg. From then until 1910 he worked at the reduction works. 1910 - 1924 they lived at the Casa Grande where they were housekeeper and gardener where Mr. Lord Sexton - owner of the mine lived. Between 1925 and 1947 in a cottage on the west side of Almaden Road in the Hacienda (now known as New Almaden) They were very interested in protecting the heritage of the community (Donors: members of the family.) |
