Small museum display posters for each of the following: Samuel Butterworth - First president and general manager of the Quicksilver Mining Company (QMC). He arrived on July 1, 1864. James Butterworth Randol - James B. Randol came to the New Almaden mine in July, 1870. as its GENERAL MANAGER. He contributed greatly to the improvement of community life and the welfare of the employees. He resigned in March, 1892. Captain & Mrs. William Grey - The Grey Shaft was named for him. The Mexican Minero - Mexican miners came with the Barron, Forbes Company, from Tepic, Mexico. They were at their best in tracing and discovering ore bodies. A good Mexican Minero was said to have a keen nose for pay-dirt. The Cornish Jack - They came from Cornwall, and spread themselves throughout the mining camps in the west. They had a natural apptitude for rigorous rock mining, and were the best in efficiency and endurance. This pictures portrays the typical "Cousin Jack" with his candle holder and probably a pasty in the lunch pail. Frank Bohlman and family - He was the livery stable owner and contracted all the transportation work for the mining company. |
