Article "The New Almaden Mine, The First Chemical Industry in California", from the Journal of Chemical Education, May 1943, Vol. 20, No. 5. It was during the period of Mexican control that the first steps were taken to conduct a chemical process in a large scale. This was the refining of mercury, which resulted form the discovery of the New Almaden mine, and it may be properly be called the first chemical industry in the west. The article is an overview of how mercury production grew. |
