Description |
Museum label about the origin of the Quicksilver Museum. In 1926 Mr. and Mrs. James E. Healey (parents of Constance B. Perham) purchased this property for a summer home. As the family was interested in California history the importance New Almaden played in state, national, and intenational history opened new fields. Finding many records and artifacts in old buildings enlivened their interests. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Artnous, the last of the "old timers" gave much information and encouragement. Constance then 18 years old conceived the idea of a museum. Sparked by her mother's statement: "Nothing is ours-we are caretakers for the future." From then on Constance never lost sight of her motivating idea and in 1949 a meseum was established by her, in this old adobe. In 1952 Douglas M. Perham joined with Constance to enlarge and expand the museum. In 1958 Douglas and Constance were married. |
