Description |
This is an UNTITLED MANUSCRIPT written by Jimmie Schneider apparently intended for his book "Quicksilver: The Complete History of the Santa Clara County's New Almaden Mine:. It is uncertain who wrote the original story. The manuscript is written in the first person, taking place in the late 19th century before Jimmie Schneider was born in the early 20th century. The "first person" is probably Jack Drew. There are two stories in the manuscript. First is about the Miner's Fund. J. B. Randol created the fund to provide medical care and drugs. The cost was $1 a month. He appointed his uncle, Dr. A. R. Randol as the first physician. When Dr. Randol died on the property in 1879, Dr. Smith E. Winn became the company doctor. The major story of this manuscript is a history of most all the mines developed. The aspirations and troubles are vividly discussed. The source of these stories is probably Jack Drew. |
