This scrapbook was compiled by Irene Hauck. It consists of newspaper clippings related to events in New Almaden from 1922 through 1940. Page 2 "Mine's Discovery to be Celebrated" - a clipping announcing a barbecue and program at 2 o'clock this afternoon to celebrate the centennial of the discovery of the New Almaden quicksilver mine. - September 1, 1923 Page 3 "A Rare Opportunity to Buy This Wonderful Estate" - newspaper advertisement offering Casa Grande and it's approximately 1800 acres of land for sale. The sale includes the village of historic New Almaden, the 18-room brick Casa Grande and it's 2 acres of beautiful grounds and a cement-bottomed lake built for swimming as well as beauty. Suggested uses for the property include a gentleman's country home- sanatorium-stock raising-game preserve-exclusive summer resort-or country club.
