TITLE: Indescribable Even Then.
Heard that while on vacation a large delegation of New Almaden residents showed up at a S.C. County Planning Commish hearing addressed by one of their number, the renowned "Patriarch of New Almaden," Laurence Bulmore. Good reason - hearing was for the purpose of getting an ordinance passed designating areas & buildings of historic significance. Laurence drew the biggest laugh of the day when, in reading some in-depth research he had compiled, he told of an expedition by a Navy lieutenant of 1846 who said in part, "Passing through the Mission of Santa Clara, we arrived in San Jose about dark. Having rested a day, we looked around the village of San Jose, & it is hardly worth describing." Now that you've had your laugh, here's some unhappy news - Laurence & Martha Bulmore are leaving to live in the Concord area with a daughter. A dinner honoring them is ticketed for July 10 at Lou's Village. Lynn Vermillion & Frances Fox (287-2788 or 293-1879) are taking reservations.
